Fathers day

Creating cards and wrapping gifts lots of little pleasures in the lead up to today that special Father's Day.

I new today would be a hard day being the first fathers day without my brother in law. Fathers day. Like all special occasions is steeped with tradition and in ours the men rotate between turns of choosing our outing or activity, this year it would have been Al's turn, Dad and Brian chatted and organized a neutral ground one where we hadn't been with Al - Newtown shopping and lunch at our favourite restaurant Twelve.

Unfortunately for Brian our Kids are both in the workforce and had to work, so we started the day at a very early 6 something, with a cuppa and gifts with the kids before Dylan started work at 7am. Scrambled Eggs which I cooked followed with a Coffee with Bianca, before she started work at 9am. So we were up and off we headed just the two of us into Newtown. Stopping at some of the antique, vintage bric-a-brac shops of course some goodies had to come home our finds ....

 Another Cast Iron flower frog, a round one this time and it was only $8 and a bread knife with a guide, it also was $8, we were happy with our purchases.

 We had a wonderful lunch, and ate up a storm, of course the fathers photographed cheering!!!

 Our meals, favourite on the table was the steak sandwich on sour dough - YUM, followed closely by the spicy chicken burger, Pumpkin and Spinach salad and the Caesar salad with chicken. 

 Oh my the sweets - yes look at that window......Brian did have a slice of that Lemon Meringue look at its height!!!

 We finished with some cruising it was such a wonderful day, not to enjoy the sights we drive by all the time.

 and we finished the day with a nice cold beverage, and the company of friends in our front yard just catching the last of the suns rays....what a glorious day.

vintage flower frogs in cast iron or even iron

You know that old saying you always find it when your not looking......well, we often visit the second hand stores and vintage stores when we are traveling out and about.

And never in my wildest dreams last weekend, would I have thought to be hunting for some vintage flower frogs....but you will never guess that I found them.

Whilst enjoying the amazing weather that we had last Friday, with all 6 of us in the car. An amazing lunch was had in Palm Beach, but with Bianca due to visit the specialist again at Narrabeen at 5 we found that we had more time on our hands than we knew what to do with. So I remembered that Mum had mentioned that she wished to find some little knick knacks for a friend to pop on to some cute as peg bags for the hospital auxiliary stall. Not being the driver...yep the arm is still too sore to drive so in the navigator seat i directed Brian to the little junky shop in Narrabeen, and sure enough the only parking was outside St Vinnies....but with the mission of little thingys on my mind we didn't visit, then after everyone was back in the car, I decided I couldn't not have a peak....so meandering around...nope nothing is catching my eye...

When walking out the door what do I spy!!! yep something I have wanted for a couple of years the Cast Iron vintage flower frogs...not one but a set of three....oh you should have seen my excited face....

all rusty and perfect....Mum and Dad didn't understand neither did the Kids but lucky for me hubby with his trusty pocket of change understood....and at bargain prices too....only $5 each so for $15 these cute little rusty treasure came home with me....

I love rusty treasures!!!! Love these things, and love the new possibilities for them. This is very old, Australian made and has a lead base, iron spikes and says on the back " Stayput Products, Melbourne, Aust." I am not sure what I will display in them yet but I love that I have a collection to display.

More Vintage finds - before shots

We are the constant recycler of older style pieces - and with a kitchen reno in it's part done stages, last week when i saw this cupboard, it took a few hours and a couple of phone calls before I managed to get hubby to agree that it will work in with our plans....still not sure but it's now mine and sitting waiting to be striped back and worked into the kitchen....can't wait to see how it works out.

Hopefully we can find a piece of the matching glass to replace the stained glass one - going to frame it and hang that one somewhere too...will show you post photos as it happens...this is on Hubby's todo list for today - so the sanding and stripping back is starting.

Vintage Finds

Well I have been out and about early today - I think the sewing repair shop finally believes me that my machine isn't haunted and that the $250 I paid 6 months ago for a repair - seems to have not done a thing.

So they have my machine again, for the 10Thu time in 6 months and hopefully they will fix it for good this time.

Lucky for me that I purchased a little cheapy that is sewing up a dream for me....with huge plans of sitting at it today to sew up a storm and get some things in my etsy store.

With plans of being home alone and sewing in mind, I needed a few more zippers and I love that I can pick up a bargain at the salvo's of recycled zippers in bright colours, it's been so long since i have popped in that i whizzed in on my way home from the repairers......and here is what i found.

a couple of zips...yep that was the first pick up and then some spotty fabric...have no idea for that but well a girl can't have too much spotty fabric in her stash...and then well a sweet doily that i loved and could see being a feature on a bag or two....and then...just a quick wonder around and what should i spy.....

So let's get onto the real reason of this early post today....my vintage find excitement.

TWO VINTAGE KODAK FILM REELS.......well my excitement was bursting and yes there is film in there....and a quick look when i got home and it has writing in the sand on palm beach in 1956 - yippee sad that i have somebody else's memories but well i loved the tins and they will look good in my little collection of camera memorabilia......think it might be time for a little display share sometime soon....will put it together and share....
