Hope Quilts, 2 more completes and some donations

Monday this week saw me hand over 2 more Hope Quilts. Bring the Tally for Threadbare Quilts to 32 for so far, that's a lot of stitching for a little group of about 10 ladies...and the warm and fuzzies we feel when we give out one of our Hope quilts is really what it is all about. The stories we hear of those that say they can feel the love when wrapped up in one of these special quilts is perfect.

Lemonade Leaves filled with hope hearts Quilt 32

So on Monday it was wonderful for us to receive 2 bags of fabric and a about 15 quilt tops as a donation from a fellow quilter that visited with our group.

I have brought home with me a quilt top, that I can divide into 2 as me make a smaller sized lap quilt, that I will be working some coloured heart quilting into, and then I also have a stack of disappearing nine patch blocks that are ready for sashing and rails for another quilt - then i have a collection of what appears to be the beginnings of a beach themed quilt - so with a few additions of fabric that should be another, I seemed to have my hands full but I know that after Christmas I will enjoy working on these projects.

If you were interested in donating fabric for our HOPE QUILTS -  please leave a comment or email me for more information.. we are desperately seeking quilting batting and 1.5 metre pieces for backings

Hope Quilts Update

Do you remember this quilt from this post, well it found it's owner - yes the lady who quilts most of our quilts by hand and the special lady who actually made this quilt. Was diagnosed with Breast cancer 2 weeks ago, and as we hadn't actually donated this quilt as yet - she asked for it back. I am happy to report that Evelyn has had her breast removed and been given the all clear from the doctors this week, that they have removed it all and that her cancer markers are good. She is not expected back to the Dr's for another 12 months.

Last week we delivered our 30 th hope quilt to the little man who lives across the road from me - here he is snuggled under the quilt. Rory was diagnosed 3 weeks ago with a rare, genetic based cancer called ALK inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour. It will be treated with a tablet called Cryzotinib not chemo with hopefully less side effects. Lots of unknowns but also lots of hope. Two days ago Rory had his first CT scan since commencing his cancer treatment, and the shrinkage was obvious to the untrained eye and this gives us great hope, given Rory has only been on the cancer drug for 13 days. It's still a very big tumour but the game plan is all about shrinking to a point where removal is feasible. Fingers crossed that the current rate of shrinkage continues!

Still in the ever growing pile of HOPE QUILTS is Quilts 31 & 32, I have them awaiting labels and a little late night hand stitched binding to do.

Quilting ... the Love Hope Quilt pile is growing and shrinking....

A few more have gone from the pile since I last posted in July

The above Quilt is Quilt 20 Red/Animal Print Hope Quilt in our growing pile, and it was just going to be the only quilt in the ready to go pile at mum's but alas - it only lasted a week before it was needed.

Quilt 21 from this post  the Red AND Green Hearts Hope/Love Quilt was given to Fung Chen on the 9th August.

Quilt 22 - Hearts AND Roses Pink Hope Quilt had Sheree's name added to it and was given to her on the 24th August

Here is the photo that Steph and my friend Dee shared on Facebook, love the warm and fuzzy's I get when I see a hope love quilt doing its thing and giving the love, warmth and hope to one in need.Last week I was contacted by a friend who asked me to make a quilt for a friend of hers who is sick. I said I would sort it out. A quick call to Mum who has our stash of completed quilts and got her onto putting a name on the quilt for Steph who is suffering from Aplastic Anaemia and has been spending quite a bit of time in hospital.

So LAST weekend, saw me working on labels and binding on the last few ready to complete I have in my pile. A few managed to get completed and handed over to mum, the rest is sitting in a nice pile for me to sit and do the lovely sigh part of the quilt by hand the binding and the label, so my nights will be busy over the next few weeks. finishing this pile off

.....quilting away.....

Well it's been a bit of sewing time for me, with markets and what not....life's just been one big stitch-a-long. Here are this months completes so far.

Back in April I posted a photograph of a large stack of Hope Love Quilts, that needed labelling and binding, well that pile has been growing thanks to the hard work of the ladies from my threadbare sewing group. I did finish  one back in May that I hadn't shared with you so this is it.

Quilt 19 Roger's Brown Heart Hope Quilt

Sadly Rodger only got to sleep under his quilt for a few days before he passed away. But I know his family will cherish those memories forever.

Feeling the pressure of an ever growing pile, I finally managed to label and finish the binding of three of them in the last two weeks...there wasn't much binding to these 3 as the ladies had already bound them, I just had to unpick the corner where the labels went in and worked in the labels.

Quilt 23 - The PINK Hope quilt

Evelyn the lady who does all our hand quilting on these quilts made this quilt it is filled with alternate machine appliquéd pieces all relating to Woman's Cancer - this quilt will be donated we think to the hospital for a display piece of hope to fill a waiting room.

Then there is my
